After acquiring my 600L IS, this baby needs a new home... Since acquiring this glass a few years ago, I've used it for local wildlife photography (birds and such), as well as several surfing competitions (US Open, NSSA, WSL) here in Southern California... Shooting wide open (f/4.5) is very respectable, but its "sweet spot" is between f/5.6 through f/9... Sharpness is amazingly good... And the image compression at 500mm is something to behold!!! In addition, this glass will take a 1.4x TC (teleconverter) with full auto focusing capabilities... It can take a 2x TC, however, you can only focus manually... This has been my experience with my Canon TC's (Mark 2 version)... I don't know if this will be the case, if you use third-party TC brand like Kenko or Sigma... So YMMV, depending on what TC manufacturer you use...
Date Code is UM0251 (1998)... Front and rear elements are clean.. However, there are a few internal dust particles, but nothing to obstruct image quality... Externally, the lens does have several scratches and paint nicks throughout, but considering this is a 20 year old lens, I'd say it's pretty darn remarkable because of its age... Sale items include:
- Lens
- Lens Hood
- Original Case with Keys
- Leather Hood Cover
- 48mm Drop-in Filter
Paypal is the preferred form of payment and USPS will be the shipping carrier... Buyer is responsible for all Paypal fees (3%), however, I will take care of shipping/insurance/tracking/signature costs...
I don't know the seller at all, but I really do know this lens - my copy has been my workhorse for the last decade. A fantastic price on an incredible lens. If I didn't already own one I'd be sorely tempted. If you're looking to get into the world of 'big whites' this is a great start. Very easy to handhold and great for sports and/or wildlife. Works a treat with any of the Canon 1.4x converters, too. Sharp, sharp, sharp, too.
Last drop @ $1,800... Otherwise, I'll just keep in my inventory... Buyer pays PP fees and I'll take care of shipping/tracking/insurance/signature costs vis USPS...
