p.1 #1 · Any way to copy settings from one Photo Memory Bank to another on D500

As per the title...

I was trying to setup the Photo Memory Banks to be able to quickly switch from one set of exposure parameters to another. I have the Record/Scroll wheel set to switch them which is fairly quick. What I'm trying to do is have an exposure set on Bank A for flight shots (higher ISO and SS) and one on Bank B for perched shots (lower ISO, lower SS, stopped down if possible). I may use Bank C and D for flight and perched in a different light (sunny instead of shade for example). I do this on my Canon cameras with the C modes.

What I can't figure out is if I can just copy my main settings from Bank A to the other banks and then tweek the exposures. Right now it seems I have to go into each new Bank and change every setting to how I like it. This takes time and is annoying. Basically I want all the settings the same except for the three exposure parameters and maybe the AF settings.

I also found out I need to be using extended photo memory banks to be able to change aperture and SS. And as far as I can tell, I can't have different AF modes programmed on different buttons in each Bank. I would have liked that also but not a big issue.

This was confusing to me also. I made a word doc from a post or posts that I read and have posted it here for you

- HOW TO CHANGE MENU BANKS IN NIKON D500
1st STEP : PHOTO SHOOTING MENU PROCEDURES
1 – Go to Photo Shooting Menu and pick the first bank ( A )
2 – Scroll down to File Naming and change it to your desire name. You will allow to enter only 3 letters.
3 – Change every single function in this menu : Ex. : NEF Recording, ISO Sensitivity settings, Picture Control, Color Space, Active D-Lighting, High ISO NR, Vignetting Control, Distortion Control, etc.
4 – You can also change for example the AF Mode Button to your desire AF ( d25, d72, d153, 3d tracking, Group, Single or Auto ) and whatever change you made, will apply to that bank as well.
2nd STEP : CUSTOM SHOOTING MENU PROCEDURES
1 – Custom Setting Bank; make sure the bank letter here match the one you chose in the Photo Shooting Menu. For instance, the default is A.
2 – Change every single function that you want in the AUTOFOCUS MENU ( a )
3 – Change every single function that you want in the METERING EXPOSURE ( b )
4 – Change every single function … in the TIMERS/AE LOCK menu ( c )
5 – Change every single function … in the SHOOTING / DISPLAY menu ( d )
6 – Change every single function … in the BRACKETING / FLASH menu ( e )
7 – Go to f CONTROLS ( f )
8 – Go to f1 ( CUSTOM CONTROL ASSIGNMENT )
8a – Scroll down to fn1 ( this control is divided in two sections )
8b – Leave the first section OFF
8c – Move the cursor to the right and hit the multi-selector center button
8d – Choose PHOTO SHOOTIN MENU BANK
8e – Hit MENU when done
… you first bank has been registered.
3rd STEP : go back to PHOTO SHOOTING MENU again ...
1 – Go to Photo Shooting Menu and pick the second bank ( B )
2 – Make all your changes in this menu for the new bank ( B )
4 STEP : go to CUSTOM SHOOTING MENU again ...
1 – Make sure the Custom Setting Bank is matching the bank letter from the previous step.
2 – Make all your changes again to a, b, c, d and e
3 – Go to f1 and repeat the procedure from 2 STEP
NOTE : You must do the steps from 7 to 8e in order to register/record your changes for that specific bank. If you skip those steps, your changes will not apply.
REPEAT ALL THE STEPS FOR THE REST OF THE BANKS ( four in total )
AFTER YOU FINISH, to switch between banks :
- Press fn1 and keep it pressed …
- Turn the Main Command Dial ( to switch between banks )
- You will not be able to see which bank you are in your viewfinder but in the control panel.

I hope this helps

I will make sure I follow those steps. But I gather from that list that as I expected there is no easy way to transfer all the custom settings from Bank A and copy them to Bank B and then change just a couple things in Bank B. I have to go through all the menus each time I set up a bank. I will find some spare time and get it done but man Nikon couldn't you make this simpler? Canon's way is a million times simpler and takes mere seconds to set all the C modes because you can be in C1 and then go and setup C2 and it copies all the current settings. Then you can change the few things you want to in C2.

I agree since I also have a D7000 which has the U1 and U2 switch.
I shoot at my church every week and I also like to shoot birds and landscapes.

My four settings banks are labeled -
Testing - for when I want to make changes without overwriting other banks.

Tripod - setup for landscapes

Birds -

Church

The key is to be in the right bank

So I went and set up A and B for now. I hadn't realized that there was a difference between Photo Memory Banks and Custom Control Memory banks. Now why can't they be linked together?? I want to use the Choose Photo Shooting Memory Bank control to switch between banks but I want it to change the Custom Control Bank also...as far as I can tell it doesn't The only way to change the Custom Control one is in the menu unless I'm missing something. I have it on MyMenu to get to it faster but still I don't see why there can't be an option to link those two banks to change when I use the Choose Photo Bank.
