I'll take some heat for this, but seeing these lovely animals trapped and dead is not really what I come to this forum for.

Martin and Fisher are seldon seen.

These animals are beautiful. The ones that know the most about
them are the trappers. They are amazing creatures.

I'm not too keen on only seeing the dead ones either.

Mike tells me they get skinned then go to Europe.

I'm with Mark on this - I know I'm a real newbie here - and I understand the rationale for hunting whitetails - but there is absolutely NO place for this type of thing here - leave it on a hunting site -

Just my $0.02

I'm sure there is something, that you folks do that Trappers don't agree with.
But everyone is entitled to their opinion.

All of you would have a grandparent or great grandparent that was
involved with trapping in one form or another. My dad trapped in the
late 30's and I have a number of trapper friends.

If you want to know what's happening to the forest or where the polution is;
the trapper will know. They are out and about year round.

This is a nature photography forum, and videos showing animal traps and dead animals really aren't appropriate here. Why don't you have your trapper friends help you track a live one and let you shoot some nice images. Then come back with those, but please, keep these videos off the forum.

thank you for your understanding.

Since I got video of the Hooded Crow. I have been way more into bird watching.

I have posted some recent video of Moose and Ruffed Grouse. That were alive.

I like them live to. And will do my best to get more live animals on video.

Few people from this area have ever seen a Fisher or Martin. The forrestry
business is the biggest hazard for these animals. The oil and gas business
opens up the area then the loggers move in. Martin and Fisher will not cross
open patches of bush.

It you want to become more informed about these animals follow this thread:

Hey Swamp.

I trapped when I was in my teens up in the Dakota's. I'm an active hunter and fisherman. I realize that hunters are some of the best, and most important conservationists there are.

BUT, I have the good sense to recognize that this is a PHOTOGRAPHY forum, not a video forum, and that this is not an appropriate place for you to post your videos. So move on, Swamp, this is not the place for you, unless you get a decent still camera and learn how to use it.

So what? That was then and this is now.

Once again, so what? The trappers are part of the pollution problem. A good hunter tries to get an instant kill. Leg-hold traps and snares are still used by many trappers and the animals they trap often suffer for days. I know this is true because I have seen it. Many trappers are also doing this for extra money, not as their main way or only way of making a living.

As others have said, this is a forum for STILL photography, not VIDEO.

I'll put a poor video up against a good picture any time.

Video puts the subject in context.

When you get a video camera you'll forget pics.

I was expecting them to close this post.
I'll come back and hound you folks on picture taking if it is.

If you want to know more about the Hooded Crow check this forum

I'm sure you will - I have a video camera and have used it a lot. Doesn't even come close to what a still camera can do, and it more than puts things into context.

Why is it so hard for you to understand that trapping videos just aren't appropriate in a nature and wildlife PHOTOGRAPHY forum, not a hunting forum. I have nothing against hunting, but it just plain and simple doesn't belong here.

Got it

From now on when I post videos I'll
mark them XXX so you can skip over the ones
that you don't agree with.

I'll post a video of Spruce Hens. They get shot at
15 to 20 times and don't get hit. Very funny and
nobody gets hurt.

Remove this posting if you like.

Just getting a little revenge on the PETA folks.

I must say that I agree with most of what the others have said, being born and raised in Western PA, I was practically born with a compound bow in my hand
That said, since I do a lot of work with the park services down here I am always in contact with the hunters down here because they are the ones that know where everything is out in the glades. I love hunting and fishing, but I think that the video is unappropriate for this forum.. not that it is unappropriate in general.. it's just not for this forum.

Thanks,

Charles

If you want revenge on the PETA folks, try their website.
If you want to post videos, find a video forum.
If you want people to respect you, respect them.
And if you're nothing but an attention getter, you've come to the wrong place. People like you have been here before, quickly fade away, and are soon forgotten. Goodbye

I'm pretty sure there are some PETA folks here.

I checked and couldn't find anything on forum rules
let alone some prohibition on video. Where are these rules?
Maybe busy bee is making them up as she goes.

What about the pics of animals in zoos, you must have a
problem with those?

I get enough respect from other forums to keep me happy.

Then maybe you should stick to those other forums. In case you haven't noticed, the majority of those replying to your posting find it distasteful.

With all due respect - you're pretty sure that there are some PETA folks here? You're not doing much to preserve any credibility on your side with a shot in the dark like that.

This is a photography forum, and pictures of animals, flowers, nature and wildlife are welcome. People come here to learn. Oh, did I mention they post pictures, as in photographs. There are rules as to what appropriate content is, but one would hope that you were intelligent enough to distinguish between a nature photograph and a trapping video.

but we apparently can't get our hopes too high.

If you get respect on the other forums that are more geared towards the kind of video you posted here, all the better. So please, delete this thread and post your videos in a forum where they are more appropriate.

Thank you
