Well, I almost ran out of insects to shoot yesterday, and at almost 7pm....it was quite dark, than I spotted the weaver ant with a larvae. The nest was quite small, so I thought must be few ants inside, and since I also did not know what was inside, I peeled open the leaf quickly, and OUT CAME THE QUEEN!!! Yikes! It was huge! First time seeing it, and I think I have seen it before, with wings, but did not know they were Queen designate!

Awesome pics, always thought the queen was just a LITTLE bigger, but not so. Very interesting and great macro work.

what lens?
incredible series... I think you a brave man to try and touch a leaf with weaver ants on it!! I know the ones we have here in south florida (imported of course ) would be all over you in a minute biting and shooting acid into the wounds!
I really think that the queen shot can be considered the macro "money shot" nice captures!
Beautiful series! I just read the article about warrior ants in the August issue of National Geographic and these photos are definitely at the same level as those in the article. Well done!
