p.1 #1 · Live View/ MLU

On my 1DsIII, when I engage live view, the mirror locks up and the shutter opens. When I then press the shutter button, does the mirror stay locked up as if I'm using MLU? What's the mechanical sequence here?

I'm not sure if it accomplishes anything significant, but I generally push Set to get out of LiveView (LV,) and then shoot with MLU, using a release or self-timer. After all, when viewing in LV mode, the shutter is open, right? So, when you push the shutter release (or remote release), then the shutter first has to close, then open/close to take the photo, as the 1DsIII doesn't have an electronic shutter. If this is the sequence, then there is one extra shutter motion involved with LV, as opposed to MLU (with a suitable pause between opening & closing the shutter, with MLU).

Yes, the mirror stays locked up. I never had issues with the shutter doing extra travel, and I've done bracketed, long exposures with supertele lenses.

Live view is actually the most stable way to shoot and uses an electronic first shutter curtain: http://krebsmicro.com/Canon_EFSC/index.html

Photoguy,

That info is interesting, but does not apply to my camera model.
