p.1 #1 · Monopod in Carryon Luggage?

I'm heading to Dublin/York/Manchester in April, and plan on traveling as light as possible (carryon+camera bag). I'd like to make sure that I have some form of support for lower light photos if possible, and I'm thinking that I might get a small monopod to use for more portable support instead of buying a small tripod.

Anyone ever carried on a monopod? With the TSA being as feverish about carryon luggage as they seem to be, I want to avoid any possible issues I might have with regard to getting it onto and off of the plane. If worse comes to worse, I can always go without any support or pick up a disposable tripod in England while I'm there, but that just seems like a poor solution.

I normally travel with a full tripod in my carryon rollerboard without any issues. The only reason I get stopped is the trigger handle of my Manfrotto 322RC2.

p.1 #3 · Monopod in Carryon Luggage?

About 15 years ago I had a six section Gitzo Monopod with a Gitzo ball head in a big Domke bag. Stopped on check in take to a "back room" they were sure they were going to pull out an Uzi, looked like one with out a clip. They laughed when they took out the monopod and I made my plane. This was out of Hartsfield in Atlanta on a domestic flight.
Now I have a Manfrotto tripod case and stick my tripod and monopod in there. I check them so not traveling light but have never had a problem.
I would pull the monopod out and send it through outside the bag with your shoes.
Have a good trip.

I packed my monopod in my suitcase for a December trip from Philadelphia Pennsylvania to San Diego California. I had no difficulties with TSA.

Good to hear.

Anyone got a recommendation for a good, smaller monopod, ideally under $150 inclusive?
