Here are some samples from my shoot with Actress, Singer and Artist Joséphine de La Baume for VOGUE Brasil RG. For the November issue 2009.

Want to thank:

Freddy Baby Paris for the wonderful retouching job she did

Christophe Durand for his perfect Make-Up as usual

Sebastien Quinet for his creativity as a Hair Stylist and some fun photo captures

Yasmine Sterea, VOGUE Brasil stylist, who was incredibly positive during the highly charged ambiance. Thanks for your Cool.

…and Josephine for her warmth and hospitality.

For those of you wanting to know the gear I used. I shot with the Pentax K20D, Pentax 16-50 f/2.8 lens a couple of Multiblitz Compact Lite 200 watt second mono block strobes.

What incredibly unhelpful and snide comments. If your going to make a criticism like "looks like Vouge at Walmart" why don't you try to justify the comment and/or give some constructive criticism...
Instead of being an ***.

OP:
The images aren't bad, but they aren't amazing in my opinion either. You have some good lighting, you obviously can control your light well. That being said, the images look... over sharpened? Combined with the high contrast look it just doesn't do it for me. Do you have some before editing?

But what looks over-sharpened on the screen might not be that on print.

The first image is very flat, there's no depth to it. The subject is easily lost in the background. The second image, the flowers provide some depth but they overpower the composition.

I'm sure you're a wonderful photog, but that set looks a little challenging.

So, the OP is published in Vogue and is then bashed here at FM... interesting.

To my untrained and over-imaginative brain it looks like the busy scenes were obviously intentional. For me the deer head steals the show in the first shot, I think the 2nd shot is great.

I think they're great. Just try and make an image where the background is intensely busy and sharply focused, and the subject still makes a riveting connection to the viewer. Not so easy, I think. Usually I get a jumbled mess when I try it.

i'm no pro so don't take my comments too seriously.

#1 it seems like the girl doesn't stand out in the first picture. everything seems cluttered. i don't quite get the message of it

#2 i guess she's trying to portray this 'vogue' image by looking like "owh i don't care what's going on around me". but the flowers are too much in this picture.

the overall color really isn't my taste. but that's just me.

Forget the snipes - these photos are excellent - harsh, but exactly what is needed. I am amazed about the so-called professionals on this site-many are WAY out of date. Keep it up man, and keep us posted. Spyros

I'm awestruck by some of the profoundly ignorant comments being made on this thread, you've really outdone yourselves people.

Great work and thanks for sharing benjikan. I wonder if you can answer one questoin, how much time in post is typically spent used on images like these?

Cheers

The post processing leaves something to be desired...I'm not sure what it is...a bit too much contrast and definitely too much sharpening. Some of the photos give me a weird HDR process look that leaves something to be desired...compositions and scenes are good...

the magic is missing though...

All three photos are quite stylized. I assume the editors wished them to be so. The first does seem rather busy, but all I saw at first were her eyes. I think that was the point. The second is rather affected and doesn't do a lot for me. I think the wall corner in the background and maybe too much rose to foreground have something to do with it. The third one is lovely. One can see the inspiration in the photos on the piano. Congratulations on your success.
