Has anyone ever had a sensor replaced in a 1Ds Mark II, if so... how much did it cost?
Here's the situation.
A customer is claiming we scratched the sensor on his camera cleaning it. The customer then had the scratch repair estimate done by another shop. The grand total? $4300.00 for a new sensor.
It's my understanding their is a piece of glass over the sensor that can be replaced without the whole sensor unit. I could be wrong.
Any insight from anyone would be great. Canon isn't able to give me that sort of information over the phone for whatever reason.
There is a company that does filter replacements for about 500 on the 1ds mark ii. I don't have the url handy but, did find it here on FM. Do some searching on this forum, you'll come up with it.
Alot of Canon franchises worldwide wont touch the scratched sensor as there can be problems with dust etc. There approach usually is to change the whole sensor unit complete which is around that price. Lifepixel is the way to go as they specialize in replacing just the AA filter on the sensor. In saying this they did mine and my camera has had issues since returning..
Clean the sensor again in case it is a stain rather than a scratch. I once used a brush to clean a sensor and it spread some grease or something over the sensor. "Don't Panic !" came to mind, almost too late. A few more goes at cleaning fixed it completely but it was quite a scare.
My camera came back and error 99'd and couldnt be reset. Went to canon here who fortunately didnt realise someone else had been inside it and because it was such low mileage fixed it for free. It needed new boards etc. May have been incredibly bad luck but since it had only just got back, pretty unlikely! They didnt answer my emails either...
