I am not planning to purchase any new camera. However, today I was at my usual camera store in Italy, which is one of the Canon Professional Store, and the dealer told me that next week they have been convened by Canon Italia for the presentation of a new camera. I asked if maybe is the replacement for the 5D. He said no, it's not a replacement for the 5D but he was not able to give me more information....
There's a rumor every week that people start about the 5D successor, among other equipment. He's likely not able to give you anymore information because it is most likely fabricated somewhere along the lines of communication that he receives.
I'm not saying your friend is wrong, but I am telling you that there is a new thread about this kind of thing here on FM every week.
I don't normally get involved in this talk, but I am guessing if there is anything new it will be that stupid mini-slr (1000D?) rather than the one everyone is waiting for, the new 5D. Then everyone will be really pissed!

I dont believe in the 5D2 anymore . . . it'll be too good of a camera that will hurt 1Ds3 sales.
A small camera, like a G9 that accepts EF lenses would be a dream come true. Just keep the live view and AF, take out the prism, 1.6x sensor. I would buy one in a heart beat.

Trust me - the only thing hurting the 1Ds3 sales is the $8000 price. If it were $2000, they'd sell a million of them (and probably lose money).
I couldn't agree more! I think going to $6K for a MSRP would be better. I mean you can get a 10.1MP 1D-Mark III for $4K. You could pay $2K more (that's 50% more already!!!), sacrifice some FPS to gain 21MP of Godliness! I'm sure they could still have good profits from that, too.
In reality, I'm sure it has to do with product placement in terms of Canon versus its competitors for alternative uses.
Once the Nikon D3X is out and readily available, Canon will aggressively reduce the price of the 1DS III well below the $7,000 range.
Also I don't believe a 5D II will hurt sales of the 1D MK III as there aren't selling well right now due to so much negative press.

Also a possibility it's the rumoured 1D Mark IIIn, just in time for the Olympics. Here's hoping, I want the Mark III prices to drop just a little more!
Here in Australia a 5D brand new can be had for $2200AUD about $2100USD on staright conversion if you know where to shop. JB Hi Fi want $3600AUD tell em their dreamin son.
Not that I think this rumor is right but IF the source is right and I highly doubt it. 1000D would make an ideal candidate for the fall so they could get holiday sales.
