Maybe there will be no successor to the 30D this year, is that a possibility? I mean, Canon has it pretty good right now. Why would they want to take away from the mark3 and 5D sales by upgrading?
somone in your building knows... some consultants & testers know... people doing the users guide, website, etc. it's obviously confidential from employees such as yourself and small dealers since they're doing the ordering. you better believe the top purchasing manager of B&H knows generally what to expect the entire year 2007 from canon, nikon, etc.
in short, the people who know have the most to lose if they talk.
That's right, but there are a lot less people than you think. I work in the advertising department, and when we get the news we have four days to come up with an entire ad campaign. In fact, there are very few people who know anything, and most of them just make and assemble the parts for cameras they know nothing about.
I ronically I often switch back and forth betyween my 1d2n and my old 10d. yes that is a good analogy especially if you use the 1 series to its fullest capabilities.
I think we should all stop taking ourselves so seriously. This is all harmless fun - maybe it is pointless because none of us know anything about this elusive 40D, if there even is such thing, but you have to admit that it's fun. Half of the fun with new products is the anticipation and curiosity.
Sometimes it's good for you to partake in lighthearted, pointless activity. It's good for the soul.
i don't even care about the 40D, and unless it has a bigger sensor than the joke of a 1.6 cropper, i hold to that statement.
I truly hope Canon puts a better (and by better, i mean BIGGER) sensor in the successor to the 30D. That is the biggest area this family of cameras could improve in. Forget EF-S, it is just a stopgap.

I think you're reading my post incorrectly. I'm not referring to the topic of threads such as this. They can be a lot of fun and after separating the wheat from the chaff, some very interesting information remains. I'm referring to posts which have nothing to do with the topic, add nothing to the thread, are occasionally detrimental and only relieve someone's boredom or add to their post count. ie...If you're going to post, have it add something useful to the thread.
Ah, ok, I stand corrected. No need to get off your horse.
Surprised no one has started the '40D is for August' thread yet with the obligatory 'brother of a mate of the sister in law of the cousin of someone who knows someone who occasionally plays squash with this guy at Canon' quotes
At least two "40D is for August" threads were deleted yesterday. I suspect this one will be deleted too. It seems the July one is the de-facto '40D rumor thread'

I am certain then that you do not care about pixel density (for maximum magnification). After initial enthusiasm about 5D (I am a long time film camera user) I realized that 1.6 crop gives me what I really want. If 40D does not have very good low light capabilities and and new (better) focusing with f/4.0 triple sensitivity, I will go with my original plan to get 1 D MkIII (after it is "fixed") but never FF!
You can bet that there is a 99.99% chance that there will not be anything other then a APS-C sensor in the 30D replacement. This is the prosumer camera line and having anything larger then APS-C is really just not going to happen. If you want a bigger sensor then you will have to move up into the next line, the 5D and its successor, Or into the pro lines. You just won't see a APS-H sensor in this segment, and really your only hope would be for Canon to introduce a new line (e.g.. EOS 3D) for any chance of APS-H in a smaller body. But I really doubt there will be a smaller APS-H body (Like the 30D/5D) as it would cut into sales of the 30D/5D lines.
As for no 40D in August threads, There where 3 posted, and all deleted by the mods. Really do we need to go through all this again this month!
I agree, the XXD and XXXD lines will stay with a 1.6xCF, and it would make sense for Canon to introduce a 3D line with a 1.3x as well as a cheaper XXXXD line to compete with the D40x.

I had threatend to start a "40D in August" thread in an earlier post but I think this is the better solution - use an older, tired thread with the dated title as the perpetual rumor thread. Notice there has been one new rumor thread for 3-4 days.
A new Canon DSLR is likely at the end of this month or the next. Several Canon bodies are way due for replacement the most critical being the 1Dsmk2 and the 30d.
