p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Using a generic wireless strobe trigger on 1D

Hi,

I have been trying to use a generic wireless trigger to trigger some Elinchrome strobes from my 1D, but I am not able to get it to work. The "test" button on the wireless trigger device does work ok, but when I mount the device on my camera and use the shutter to trigger, it does not trigger the strobes.

My temporary solution is to use my 550EX on Master mode to trigger the strobes now, but it does eat up my batteries at a fantastic rate, not to mention wasting the light coming from the 550 itself. Using the 550EX on normal (non-master) mode does not seem to trigger the strobes though.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

The 550ex uses a preflash which will trigger the lights so that they will not have recharged in time to fire with the real flash. What I used to do it set the flash to manual at minimum power (1/128) and make sure it's in bounce mode so it won't effect the exposure.
