How is the optic of this one compares to the newer version. Is USM that important for a macro lense? Does the lense changes its size when focusing? Do I need a lense hood for it?
Thanks
Tri
Some people believe that the "older", non-USM 100mm macro is optically better than the USM version. They are, at least, very close to each other. I used to have one, sold it and bought the verson. Unlike the USM version, the front element is recessed enough for the lens to be used without any lens hood. You cannot go wrong with either IO.
Since I sold it quite sometime ago I don't remember for sue but I think it does. I am sure that there are people on this forum that have that lens. Buhler?
Nevermind guys, I decided to settle for the Tamron DI 90 Macro. I almost bought the Canon but decided not to. Thanks for the help.
Now I will have to wait for that lense to get here.
