1970s:
Kodak Instamatic 126
Halina, 35mm viewfinder
6x6 folder, 1946 vintage
1980s:
Nikon FM2
Hasselblad 2000FC
1990s:
Nikon Coolpix 900
2000s:
Canon D30
Contax RTS III
Yashica T4 Zoom
Contax Aria
Contax 139Q
Leica M4
Contax T3
Contax T

Random notes. An Instamatic doesn't work on African safari. Hassy focal-plane shutter will wake the dead. I remember when the Rollei SL66 arrived, and I still want one. Nikon bokeh sucks, but the bodies are great. Canon DSLR 1-series weigh too much. Mechanical linkage between Contax SLR and lens is too fragile. An old Leica M is sweet. P&S are always sub-optimal, but so damn convenient. A creaky 6x6 folder can make spectacular prints.

meejahor,
Looks like you are right about the trend with many topping out at the pro-sumer level. In my case as a hobbyist, it is more about the pictures than the camera. For my hobby purposes there is not really a difference in the image quality between my Pentax Spotmatic from 1968 and my current D70. The new one is just easier to use. I used the 6x6 Yashica in the 70’s because I always enjoyed working in the darkroom and the large negatives added a lot of possibilities. It has been years since it has been practical for me to have a wet darkroom and I went digital to regain the ability to process my images again with all the creative possibilities that allows.. Photography has been largely a dormant hobby for the last 20 years and having a darkroom on the desktop has rekindled my interest.

I am not afraid to admit that the capabilities of the D70 FAR FAR exceed my abilities as a photographer so, although I like toys and dream of having a d2x, upgrading would be a total waste.

Mamiya TLR
Couple of Ricoh's (back in the early 70's
Couple of Canon F1's
Couple of Mamiya RB67s
Couple of Canon A2Es
The above I would buy one, like it and get another so I could have different lenses mounted.
Canon EOS 3 (added Motor drive)
Canon EOS 1VHS
Canon 1Ds
Canon 1Dm2
Canon 20D
Still have the last 5 Canon cameras and RB67s, kids have the two A2Es

Kodak Instamatic
Ricoh point and shot
Minolta 5000i
Minolta 7000i
Minolta 700si
Canon G3
Canon Eos 33

The Minolta 7000i was the best Camera I ever owned in the end she just up and died on me after 10 years of being bashed and smashed around the place, the 700si was also a good camera unfortunatily I ran over my camera bag so decided to get a Canon a a replacement.

I'm sure the 700si focused better and faster than the 33 and it's a more intuitive camera to use. Bugger KM for coming out with the 7D I've now got too much Canon equipment to be able to afford to jump back. I sure like the inbody AS, fantastic idea and an wonderful body.

Wow this is interesting I think there are more ex Minolta users here than any other brand (apart from Canon of course) I would have thought more Nikon users would have made the jump.

Olympus Camedia D-510 Zoom (2002)
Canon PowerShot A40 (2003)
Canon EOS Rebel Ti (2004)
Canon PowerShot S410 (2004)
Canon EOS 20D (2004)

I got rid of everything else and use the 20D and S410. I didn't actually pick up an SLR until a little over a year ago. Now I'm wondering what I've been missing all these years (well, not that many years since I'm only 23 but you know what I mean )

My list is pretty simple. I can't remember what I had before my first digital (I used a 35mm hand-me-down of some form).

1997: Olympus D210 (sold on eBay for a ridiculous amount many years later)
2001: Olympus C3040Z
2004: Panasonic FZ-10 (sold)
2004: Canon 20D
2004: Canon 10D (backup)
