Does anyone have a ballpark pricing for shutter repair cost on

1Ds
1D
1D Mk.II
10D
20D

Doesn't matter if you don't have all of them but ideas on a few would do. Thanks.

I've seen quotes of approximately $200 for a 10D.

No problem. FYI, the unofficial shutter life cycle of a 10D is 50,000 actuations. The 20D is double the 10D, so 100,000. I think the 1 Series are at least 150,000.

Why won't Canon publish the actual life cycle of the 10D?

Just got my 10D back this week. Shutter unit was replaced, plus got everything cleaned out. All covered in the $185 base fee. -- 15000 shots on the original.

usually Canon will replace the shutter unit (at full $$ charge) when it is near/reaching the shutter lifespan, even though it is not spoilt yet. This is probably because they have a 3 month warranty after you get the camera back from servicing. If they did not replace the aging shutter during the initial servicing, and you go out and take another 10,000 shots within those months and cause the shutter to expire, then they would have to replace the shutter for free under that servicing warranty.

My D30 went in for sensor cleaning at 20,000 clicks and got a new shutter too, even though I didn't request for it. I paid near to $200 for it, but I think it was worth it because it was due to expire soon anyway (25,000 clicks); now its life is extended, and it's as good as new!

Thanks nutek but there is no official numbers for 10D thou, just unofficial saying its 50k. But what you said made business sense Canon wise.

1D MKII is 200,000 cycles, humm maybe thats why it cost a little more than 2x the 20d

Nutek, I suspect mine wasn't replaced as a precaution -- I was getting the dreaded err 99 and the shutter wasn't firing. Upon inspection there were some wear marks on the lower left of the shutter. Sent it in, they replaced the shutter and now it has a better 'feel'', plus no more errors......so far.
