Canon U.S.A. posted a press release congratulating Canon photographers who captured Super Bowl XLVIII.
"The sidelines of the big game were lined with photographers using Canon EOS Digital SLR cameras and iconic white lenses. Canon is honored that more than 75 percent* of professional photographers covering the game utilized Canon DSLR cameras and EF lenses to capture and share the memorable moments of the gridiron matchup. It was sights like this that drew me towards Canon when trying to decide which route to take in the digital age. My film days were Contax/Zeiss & I wish I had kept some of my lenses. Pity Contax/Yashica could not manage to keep up with the emerging technology.

Canon has blown Nikon out of the water this time around....things will likely change at a later date....who knows
But for sports and wildlife I would never recommend Nikon to anyone if they are willing to spend the money for 1DX/5D3/1D4 and a mark II super telephoto.
For landscapes I'd be hawking D800(e)s left and right to people
