This happened to me ... Nikon (in my case NPS) asked me to send the D4 camera to them to add/replace the part and make sure the weather sealing would not be compromised. Day out by courier, day in receiving, day on the bench and a day of shipping back so even though the repair is small you will be without use of the camera for about 5 days. It is of course a warranty repair and the camera is otherwise checked over with a sensor clean, and any firmware updates you may not have done. The camera is so new I didn't even bother to send in a copy of my receipt.
Well we called our local Nikon service center ('photo Hadar', in Tel-Aviv, Israel)
They want to switch the board that holds the TWO JOYSTICKS,
And it's not covered under warranty!

As long as you are the original owner & you have your receipt & it is within the warranty period it would definitely be covered under warranty. For them to say differently would raise a red flag to whether I'd consider dealing with them. Talk to someone else, manager etc.

I agree - they are shaking him down...
(unless there is obvious sign of damage that knocked it off...)
Not to beat a dead horse but after my D4 was repaired a month ago it fell off again last night ... just got off the phone with NPS and they asked me to send it back again .... did offer a loaner and they also supplied me with a prepaid courier waybill number ...... still sucks though, I really do want this to be the LAST this happens.
Bring back this thread from the dead. This is happened on two different D4's to me. Someone in the for sale section just had his repaired from Nikon at a high price.
I've been debating sending mine off for repair but I doubt it would truely solve the problem, especially after seeing it happen to the guy in the last post after his was repaired. I wonder if Nikon would be able to stick the newer D4S style stick on the D4.
Has anyone had a D4S sub selector / joystick / whatever you want to call it, fall off?
Mine popped off back in November 2012 so I slapped a small square of gaffer tape over it and haven't thought about it since. (although when I do think about it, it does annoy me)
