This is an awesome alt lens. Very inexpensive but with great image quality and sharpness rivaling much higher priced offerings. The 35/1.4 has its own thread so let's see some pics from the 14. Please also mention which body and what aperture was used.
Thanks for contributing.

Thanks for starting a thread on this lens. I hope to join in, in a day or so.

I don't mean to be overly critical, but your color shots seem rather heavily HDR'ed, with highlight "glow" and slight over-exposure. I really like the bench and church shots, but you might try a slight variation on the PP. The Seattle shot is very dynamic, and might look great as more of a "straight" shot.

Anyway, I like your shots, and they are a great way to kick off the thread. Please post more.

Gunzorro,
Thanks for the feedback. I've edited a couple to ease up on the tonemapping.

Nice shots; lots more examples in this thread

With architecture, the barrel/mustache distortion is very noticeable. I use PT Lens ($25) as a stand alone tool for correction. Its profile for this lens works pretty well.

Jay -- Very nice! Quite an improvement. The Seattle shot really works well in B&W, and for storytelling purposes, works better with your first shot. I'm glad you took the criticism in the spirit it was offered. Great work!

I'm still waiting here for Fed Ex -- it's on the truck for delivery!

I'm officially bummed-out!

My Bell + Howell branded Samyang arrived today, and it is totally hosed on focus.

Wide open, I can't get any distance or portion of the frame in clear sharp focus.

I went around the neighborhood snapping houses on infinity and f/8, only to find them all OOF and nothing in the close areas in focus.

Next I sat down outdoors with details extending from a foot to infinity, and started at the closest focus setting and worked all the way to the infinity peg, @ f/2.8. Then I re-did at f/8, then tried two other subjects.

The further testing shows infinity is cock-eyed and only semi-sharp infinity at f/8 starts at the 5 foot setting, and gets blurry at the 7', very blurry at 10', and smeary at infinity.

I've never had a lens do this before -- like an element is in backwards!

I'll have to call Beach Camera tomorrow or Monday and send it back. I'm sure it will all work out, one way or another. Otherwise, the lens handles nicely with smooth focus ring and nice front lens cover. It does suffer severe moustache distortion, but has terrific color and contrast.

(PS -- they don't look so bad here with the low rez, so I'll have to do some 100% crops, otherwise you'll all think I'm crazy(ier) )

All shots on 1Ds2, 16mp.

Here are two RAW shots OOC converted to jpg with only my standard sharpening and clarity added, at 5 foot setting, and infinity setting, @ f/2.8.

Here are two other shots, at 5 foot, and infinity, at f/8. Same processing as above.

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c80/gunzorro/036N3414-2cropweb.jpg

I know the full image frame looks fair at f/8, but it isn't really sharp like it should be for such a sort focal length, saying that from experience with Canon 16-35II and 15FE, as well as Nikon's 12-24 DX lens. f/8 should be something like 3 feet to infinity in sharp focus.

Crisis somewhat diminished. . .

I placed the 14mm on my 60D and focused in Live View. The focus is near perfect, but still way off the supposed settings. Infinity setting is way-gone. It will have to go back for replacement or repair to adjust the focus range.

Still and all, good news. DOF is excellent as shown in these shots and their 100% details, wide open at f/2.8, ISO 400. Only sharpening and slight exposure mod, no NR, profile, or color adjustment.

Beautiful shot, Jay!

I got mine working today -- setting at 6' and using f/8 everything was spectacularly sharp from about 4 feet to infinity. Checking on f/2.8, focus was pegged at near infinity, around 30' (using the 6' lens setting). For wide-open, these shots were great, but I need more absolute assurance of focus accuracy, so the lens will go back for adjustment. I can't guarantee I'll always shoot at f/8! I'll want assurance that I am at least within the hyperfocal distance to preset the focus with aperture.

Precise focusing is a terrible challenge if you don't have LV. With such small image magnification, everything looks sharp -- until you look at it on your monitor!

For distortion, I got fairly good results from the Canon 14/2.8L II profile, and the Zeiss ZE 18/3.5 profile, both in LR3. But neither completely remedied the Salvador Dali edge/corner waves. Both profiles needed CA correction. Without profiles I was using -20, with profiles I was at +10 to remove color fringing. The lens was sharper using the Canon profile, or no profile, but the Zeiss was better at the moustache (come on Adobe, get the Samyang profiles!).

Here are some similar shots (hand held about 15 minutes apart) showing the angle of view of full frame 1Ds2 and 1.3X APS-H of the 1D Mark II (18mm equiv.).

Here's a great resource for this lens including a Lightroom profile that remedies the "moustache" distortion.

Near the bottom of the page is the link to the profile files.

Hard to imagine only a few of us have this lens, let's see some more output from it.
I just got mine back from repair, but haven had a chance to shoot with it. Here's one using the 5D classic from a trip to Phoenix this summer. I worked on the design team for the CityScape project which didn't turn out too bad.

Jay -- Beautiful interior!

rdst & jph1 -- Good stuff, thanks for posting.

I agree, there must be more owners not posting images!

I just got word today that a 14/2.8 Rokinon replacement is supposed to ship out on Monday, three days from now. Hopefully, I'll have it in hand late next week.

I use PT lens to correct for lens distortion with the Saamyang/Rokinon/Bower 14 f2.8.
If you want some alternative profiles:
Just ran across this in another forum, a correction profile for Adobe:

I haven't tired it. Another for lightroom

I've used this lens on a 5D2 for a while and it's very sharp but far corners is a bit disappointing sometimes the way I use it. This weekend I tested it on the NEX 5N and despite being quite a strange combo it's a very good performer although I find it a bit tricky to nail focus with peaking. Corner issues gone (due to the APS-C sensor of course) - and the mustache distortion is gone and replaced by a strong "normal" distortion but quite easy to corrected in ACR.

(sry, this is a double post from the NEX image thread, a few examples)

Roofshot from where I work (uncorrected - I like that it shows it's WA)
