Canon FD Tilt-Shift Infinity Adjustment | |
Hi,
I have gotten quite a few PM\'s and emails about the infinity adjustment for the FD 35mm f2.8 T-S after conversion to EOS. I just finished working on one for a friend, so I figured I would post some photos of the process. The nameplate is just lightly glued on, so I made up some music-wire (.040) \"L\" pulls, and ground the tips to leave flats. After removing the plate carefully (thin aluminum), the filter plate ring is removed, followed by the focus ring. Keep the screws in a safe place (I stick them to doubled-sided tape). Now you should see the actual infinity stop attached by three screws. There are more threaded screw holes on either side, in case your machining was out of spec...it happens. That\'s why they are there, to adjust for minor deviations. Find yourself a good target, out at least a half-mile, and use Live-View. Adjust with your camera tripod-mounted and follow through to infinity. If all is good, the 10x view at f2.8 should be the same as the f11-f16 setting for the distant target. If not, carefully loosen the three screws (do not drop them!) and move the plate until you have fine-sharp infinity focus. Then reverse the steps to put the lens back to normal, using three very light drops of flexible glue/adhesive for the nameplate.
Hope this helps!
Regards,
Edd
