Re: Zeiss 35mm F2 vs Samyang 35mm F1.4 | |
Side by side comparisons, sure. How easy it is to tell will also depend on the scene.
For instance if you compared a Zeiss 35/2 Distagon and a Zeiss 35/2 Biogon and shot wide open at a few meters distance without having any busy background they would be difficult to tell apart. On the other hand stopped down and near infinity it would be easier. Wide open close up and especially if you included some specular highlights you\'d have to be blind not to see the massive differences.
And those are two Zeiss 35/2 lenses. I\'m not familiar with the Samyang, but it would be reasonable to assume that there is a larger difference between Zeiss and Samyang than between Zeiss and Zeiss.

I was thinking about that comparison between perhaps the most contrasty modern Zeiss the 100mm Makro and the Nikon 105mm F2.5 where it seems few people guessed correctly. Perhaps that is just a very good Nikon and in web sizes it\'s not as apparent.
You are thinking of this?

Well, the hit rate wasn\'t bad. Most people did tell them apart but three 100 mm lenses are going to be much more difficult to tell apart in any case than two 35mm lenses. Wide angles are more unique as they are more difficult to construct and require complex designs which in turn usually result in a distinct signature.
