Hi Charles,

Subject isolation is using using FL / aperture to seperate subject from background. Some people confuse this with 3-D.

E.g. This was taken with a long Canon white, athough the subject is isolated the image is flat:






This was also taken with a long canon white, under different lighting and processing, to me this has the presence and 3-Dness:






The following 2 are wide angle shots, not associated with subject isolation, literally the whole frame is in focus, yet they also have a sense of depth / presence:

** Only the last image is mine, the 1st is from the-digital-picture, #2/3 are from respected FM-ers. I can remove these if anyone objects.
