There is no difference in qualification for a Silver, Gold, and Platinum as far as whether your a pro. All require you be a Pro. The difference is you may need more equipment and pay a fee for the Gold and Platinum and for that fee you get discounts for repairs and other incentives.
The letter sent by Canon is addressing those that have a membership where you receive a discount for repairs on gear. If it is not registered prior to 7/1/11 you will not be able to receive a discount for repairs on that piece of gear. If you buy it after 7/1/11 just make sure you register it before you send it in for any repairs.
From the beginning the rules of membership required that any equipment sent to CPS be registered on your account. Evidently not everyone follows the rule so as a result Canon is making it law as of 7/1/11.
If your equipment is still in warranty the only thing you need is proof of purchase and any discount you may have for repairs from your membership wouldn\'t be needed because it is covered under warranty.
