\"ML\" stands for \"multi layer\" and refers to lens coatings. These coatings were introduced later and are considerably better than the initial ones, i.e. single coated, marked as \"DSB\". Due to these differences ML lenses are commonly regarded as much better, especially in terms of contrast and flare resistance than DSB lenses.
