Hi John, what\'s that EL-Nikkor 63 like with distance shots? I have the same lens but use it exclusively on a bellows forward and reversed. It\'s one of the very best lenses for macro work that money can buy and it\'s easy on the wallet even at that.
Do you have any samples with it shooting landscapes and such?
Well, I\'ve had that lens for about 15 years but I\'ve only just started to play with it away from an enlarger. I haven\'t done any long distance stuff with it, but I am hoping to. The only tests I\'ve done with it so far are short range shots comparing it with an APO-Rodagon-N 80/4 and I was surprised that it might even be sharper than the APO, but at least in the same ball park. I need to do more testing to be sure. There are a couple of images here, posted about a week ago. Actually, some of the \'Is this fungus?\' pics are from this lens and the APO-Rodagon-N. It\'s fine lens in my opinion.
I can\'t get infinity with it using a 16-30mm helicoid which is a bit of a bummer because that is how I\'d like to use this lens. Shorter helicoids are very expensive so I\'m not sure that I\'ll ever get to try one, but if I were a bit more cashed up then I\'d certainly go down that path. It seems to have some funky bokeh which may work for some things, maybe not. It looks like the lens needs about 10mm flange clearance to reach infinity.

Post some samples if you ever do. I\'ve been meaning to try the same. Mine is a beveled slide tension mount:
that came with a bellows system especially created with this lens in mind:
The tension screws hold it in place after sliding it into the beveled grooves:
and on the other end there\'s a set of adapter rings from whatever this is called to the camera mount. Here\'s the one from it to Nikon F:
This system was designed for distribution to educational facilities (school supply) back in the day here in Japan. Anyway I\'ve been thinking (always dangerous!) about just using some masking tape, a painted cardboard tube and a body cap to mount it for infinity focusing. The reason being because it\'s so damn sharp for macro I thought it might be fun to see how it does for something like mountains, distant forests, and other. I\'ve never gotten around to it yet tho. Maybe someday! If/when I do I\'ll certainly post them somewhere on this forum!
