Re: Leica M8/M9/X1 Picture Thread

Wow, I go to sleep and wake and couple of pages to catch up! Fascinating discussion Great input and information. Sean Reid reviews are excellent and are very balanced as he is a very experienced using RF\'s.
Luka, excellent shots as usual!
Joe, great shots! Love the depth of the colours and rendering This is very unique to 35 cron.
Rod, excellent shots Luka will love the duck theme I really like this Nikkor 85/2 lens. Too many options!!!

Where do I start! Luka, the ZM 35/2 is really a lens you have to try out, if you are looking at the examples on Steve Huff\'s site. I purchased the ZM 35/2 based on this review. In reality compared to the ZM 25/2.8 on the M9, the ZM 35/2 is not the Zeiss, I would expect. Some of my first posts, were with the ZM 35/2, and really they were so lacking IMO. The ZM 25/2.8 is just an extraordinary lens, with mind blowing details and colours. My analogy would be comparing the ZE 21/2.8 to the ZE 28/2.0. As much as I love Zeiss, this is not the pick. The 35 Summicron Asph is so much more, in sharpness and in beautiful rendering. Maybe my copy was not true to form?

With respect the 90 Summicron AA or Elmarit, these lenses are sublime. Contrary to reviews, I have absolutely no problems focusing the 90mm lens. Both my lenses have been calibrated by Camera clinic, taking a few days, and are in sync with the calibrated M9. Basically minimal cost, but I really think, this is the root of a lot of the issues. When I speak to manager, he calibrates the lenses to my intended application. My you, this would be the limit of the longest FL. The 90mm is one my favourites, particularly of portraits and the Summicron APO is just amazing. It is very different than the ZE 100MP is which it leans towards, sharpness and rendering in lanscapes, the 90 AA lens beautifully render portraits. With Zeiss the ZM 85/2 is probably one of the best lenses available, but it is price in line with the 90 Summicron AA.

Carsten and Joe suggestion and discussion for lens selection is excellent.

My personal selection would be:
ZM 25/2.8, just that you can use this lens without a viewfinder if you wish.
35 or 50 Summilux Asph
90 Summilux or maybe the Elmarit.

Great discussions though!!!
