I have the Sigma 50mm f/1.4. That\'s another story because the Siggy has much smoother bokeh than the Canon and its worth the extra money to me.
I prefer my S50 bokeh to my 85/1.8 bokeh... so if the recent Sigma fast primes are anything to go by, then yes - return that 1.8, wait and see. The 85L is great, but the focus speed (and price!) leaves a lot to be desired.
I replaced my Canon 85 1.8 with a Canon 100 f/2 so I can\'t directly compare the bokeh of the Canon 85 1.8 with the Sigma 50 1.4, but I have no issue with the bokeh of the 100 f/2 (which is remarkedly similar to the 135L).
Also, the extra speed of f/1.4 vs f/1.8 is something that I would rarely use.
Additionally, as much as I love my Sigma 50 1.4 it did requre a month long trip to Sigma (actually CRIS) to get the focus right.
Thus, unless the Sigma 85 is stellar and well priced, I doubt it will see its way into my bag.
I suspect the Sigma 85/1.4 will have bokeh more similar to the Samyang/Rokinon/Falcon/Bower/etc. 85/1.4 Aspherical (i.e. much more like the Sigma 50/1.4).
Here is the Rokinon 85/1.4 compared to the Canon FD 85/1.2 SSC Aspherical (Great Grandpa of 85L) and the EF 85/1.8:

Top left corner bokeh @ 100% crop:
If the new Sigma is anything like the Rokinon, it\'ll surely blow away the EF 85/1.8 and will easily give the 85L.

On the other hand, a decent third party FF 35 1.4 or 1.8, now that is something that I would strongly consider, as I consider the 35L to be overrated and overpriced (yes,I\'m prepared to be sacked), whereas the 35 f/2 has its own issues.
So a fast FF 35mm lens with AF (I\'m aware of the Samyang) would be a lens that I bet many, including myseld, would strongly consider. 85mm? I\'d be just as happy with the 85 1.8 or 100 f/2.
