what is the name for those products that remap the marketspace and whose introduction forces other manufacturers to bring features that they previously features only in their \"Pro\" line down to their consumer/prosumer line? i remember how the intoduction of the Amiga and then the Videotoaster completely transformed the video production/postproduction market forever. there was a two year period when NewTek was showing a wire wrap prototype of the Toaster at trade shows and many competitors at NAB, Sigraph and other trade shows claimed that New Tek had $200K of video processing gear hidden under the display counter. $100 3d software on the Amiga was denounced as impossible by the manufacturers of 3d software that sold for $7500-$150000 for packages that certainly did more but more than most people needed. Consider what the Mac plus and the Laserwriter did to the typesetting and graphic design industry. Or what Digidesign did for music and sound production. Hopefully Paul will release a product that will make short flash duration, accurate color, remote control and \"golden rule\" warranty common in the monolight consumer/prosumer space. There is plenty of precedent for product like this shaking things up; and most of these gamechanging products had long and difficult gestation that fed frustration and near despair but ultimately vision prevailed. As people realize how much easier off camera lighting is with digital imaging, the market for truly great, inexpensive lighting tools for the masses becomes a viable business model.
