i hope you take my comments as constructive criticism and not as something insulting. my intent is only to help.
whether they are actually candid or not is beside the point. the end result are photos that appear to be candid. #4 being the worst in this regard. had you not told us, i would have guesses it was a one-shot attempt at a self portrait. if it were my photo, i would probably crop all the way to his head as everything else lends itself to a candid shot; the random bits of leg and shorts and the randomly placed hands, his smile also seems to be forced or maybe he is on his way to smiling and you caught him before he finished, not sure. shots 1 and 2 look pretty good but as was mentioned, they are pretty much the same shot only flipped and b&w processed. and again, as has been mentioned already, they\'re only looking for 4 photos, diversity is key. i would try again using 4 photos that are very different from each other. even #3 in your original set is very similar to #1 and #2 in composition.
