I had the opportunity to shoot side by side with a couple of Canon photographer friends of mine. Because of the nature of the events, some of our shots were completely overlapped which allowed for a direct side by side comparison.
The results of this is not due to the photographer - I know both of these individuals (one of whom does weddings) and both know their business well.
The Nikon gear used: Nikon D700, 300mm F/2.8 VR
The Canon gear used: (Two) Canon 5D Mark II, 300mm 2.8 L IS, 70-200mm 2.8 IS L
