Cieux Rouges

It’s been a fabulous past few days for messing about in boats. The wind has been a steady 10 – 15 mph out of the north, that is, a gentle breeze that’s brought low humidity.

The major project at hand is removing old varnish from the bright work. A smaller one, completed, has been adding a fold up/down, bamboo cutting board shelf to extend the galley countertop. The most expensive one has been replacing a couple of marine batteries. Ah well, there’s always something that needs doing.

It was a few degrees warmer today at 78F. (That’s 25.5 Celsius.) Mighty pleasant for November, in my book, although I do have the boat’s furnace running now that the sun’s gone down.

This afternoon we stopped by a fisherman’s house in Valparaiso and picked up a couple of pounds of medium Bay Shrimp, fresh from his boat. Put them in an ice chest then proceeded to Ft. Walton Beach to return the battery cores and pick up a quart of Flagship Spar Varnish and a Badger brush.

Decided to take the loop and drove out Santa Rosa Island, eastward, toward Destin, then back over the Mid Bay Bridge to the marina. Stopped for a few minutes at an area called “Holiday Isle” for this sunset.

Then it was home again, home again, jiggedy jig. Shrimp sautéed in unsalted butter with lemon juice, sea salt & pepper, served with rice and asparagus, homemade French bread and Boston Crème pie. (I don\'t see an emoticon for FAT!)

C&C Welcome, as always,
