Re: Show your 100-400mm at 400mm and wide open, please!
Several weeks ago I repeated an old test of the image stabilisation effectiveness of my 100-400. The bottom line is that with some care and in a kneeling marksman\'s position I can shoot the lens down to 1/100 sec at 400mm, with an OK keeper rate (about 60-70%) on a simple, well lit/contrasty and static target, without much loss of sharpness. I could also get viable shots at 1/40 sec, however, both the sharpness and keeper rate suffers quite a bit.
All in all, I have always been satisfied with the IS performance of the lens.
The goose was shot at 1/100 sec, lens wide open.
The flower was at 1/40 sec, lens wide open.
Those are about 50% crops, mildly sharpened thru USM.
