I have a 5D2 myself. But fact is the fps, shutter, mirror feel closer to a rebel than to a 50D. I don\'t see what is so crazy about saying that. And I sold my 50D so I\'m not saying I like the 50D or a Rebel better. Just that the 5 series are pretty close to the cheap FF that people always say they want and are, in a practical if not physical body housing stance, more like FF Rebels than FF 50Ds (aside from teh AF which is better than rebel).

Having owned a couple of different Rebels as well as the 40D (and 30D and 10D), I would classify it with the XXD in most ways. True, the 40D was a speed demon compared to the 5D, but in terms of feel, build, and tactile operation, the Rebels are/were a completely different animal. I guess that the frame rate and blackout timing might be similar between the 5 and the Rebels, but I never really noticed. And while the 40 had better peripheral AF points, my 5D consistently outperformed the 40 in Servo mode.

I wasn\'t really arguing with your points so much as I was pointing out that there are a number of posters here that get downright nasty about their distaste for the 5-series, and for those that would buy them. Like yourself, I shoot with a 5D2 and a 5D. And like most people, I don\'t enjoy being called an \"idiot\" or some such thing for making that purchasing choice. So when you asked why people got so defensive about the 5D, I immediately thought of the more offensive among us that might have, at times, provoked the defensive response.

I was focusing more on the practical aspects of fps/mirror etc. than body feel and look.
