So a friend of mine who just got a hand-me-down D70s from his dad picked up a much needed fast prime today, the new 35/1.8G DX which went on sale last night in Japan. It is $300 here, which is insane because it sells for $100 less in the states. I took a few test shots with it on my D700 and it is really superb. No visible vignetting for close shots, but a ton at infinity. At least as sharp wide open as the 35/2D. It really doesn\'t focus any faster than the 35/2D on my D700, but it is completely silent, gasketed, and internal focusing with FTM. It comes with a small bayonet hood and soft case here. For $200 new this thing is a must buy for anyone who doesn\'t have already have the 35/2D and has a 1.5x Nikon camera.
Here are 3 quick snap-shots from his D70s that I took. These are JPGs straight from the camera all at f/1.8:
I\'ll post a few examples from my D700 in a few hours when I have a chance to pull them off my CF card.
