Hi fellow 1d Mark III owners,
I too spoke with Canon today before sending out my June \'07 purchased 1d Mark III, serial #5232**, and they asked that I not to send in the battery, CF/SD cards, shoulder strap and eyepiece. I asked about the battery compartment cover, that is fine, as well as the lens mount cover, obviously. If you can\'t find/don\'t have a battery compartment cover, place your camera in a plastic ziplock type bag. I asked about needing extra insurance if I used the Canon pre-paid label, the rep Joe said that the camera was insured by Canon as soon as I gave it to the UPS folks. I asked Joe if I could send it next day air, paying it myself, so it might speed up the process, especially since I am in California. He said that was cool, so I just sent out my 1d Mark III by overnight Fed Ex with morning delivery, with insurance of $4,500.00, it cost me $89.00, but hopefully will be worth it if the new fix really, FINALLY WORKS, ALL THE TIME!
I too have had issues using my surrounding AF points, even mentioning it last time I drove down to Irvine almost a year ago to have everything calibrated together, but still have had funky, soft focus photo\'s some of the time, which sucks when a whole sequence is blurry and you do not know until you\'re seeing the photo\'s on your computer, since you can not really judge very accurately how sharp the focus is with the 1d Mark III\'s LCD screen...
