If Canon is making a new MKII to be a better lens, it will cost more due to simple costs of operating a business. There is the upfront research and development costs, new tool and dye/molds, new assembly lines and procedures, more costly glass, etc, etc. All this has to be paid for by the dollars received from the sale of that new lens.
