This is a Canon wide angle lens (warning lights should be going off). If it were a big white lens at f8, I would agree something is odd, but there is precedent here. The Digital Picture uses live-view to focus, so unless Canon is shipping duds of their new optic already (and in which case, I certainly won\'t be understanding), there is very little wiggle room here.
With this new information I am all but sold on the Mark I given its price point... just wish I could see some real world side-by-side with crops.
