I don\'t think the AF is the issue with the 5D Mark I. I shoot candid event photography in a lot of low light situations with the 5D, and the AF is mostly fine. The issue is the overal \"sluggish\" feel of the 5D compared to other pro cameras. And it\'s not really a framerate issue; it\'s due to the longish shutter lag and long mirror blackout time.
I too would have preferred a 5D Mark II with less resolution (12-16Mp), killer high ISO, and shooting responsiveness more par with that of the 50D (actually, a digital version of the EOS-3 or 1V). But, that\'s just my personal bias... and many wedding shooters I know who came from Hasselblads think the 5D is quite responsive in comparison.
So, for lots of folks, 21Mp resolution at less than $3K will be a huge win (assuming there is not something horribly amiss with the IQ compared with the Mark I).
No matter what you think of the original 5D, it remains to this day one of the best cameras ever built on an IQ basis... Let\'s hope that the 5DII is a worthy successor in this regard.
