Re: Trade leica q2 for m10?

You'll be going from 47MP to 24MP ... and gaining lens interchange capability.

If you're cropping down the Q to get past its distortion correction or gain a cropped focal length, you're tossing some MP anyway, so the drop from 47 to 24 may not be as severe as it sounds on spec.

As to the dollar amount on the trade, reasonable (condition variable, etc.).

Me, I'm going to be letting my Q2 go (had it for several years now), and for the WA stuff, I have the 24/2.8 Elmarit as a chosen WA IQ optic to mount on the M / L. Granted, it doesn't have AF, but ... with WA dof, zone focusing, etc. not gonna miss the AF that much.

The other aspect is that the leaf shutter on the Q2 is super, super quiet, and has a modest amount of OIS assist. The M won't be THAT quiet, nor have any stabilization (you'll learn to manage shutter speeds / ISO's). On the flip side, the tactile engagement of the M shutter release is more satisfying (imo) than the electronic release of the Q (since it is not mechanically linked to the leaf shutter).

If you "want to try" what life with an M is like ... the "is this a great deal" question ... my answer is it is a fair deal. You're not getting taken advantage of (again, condition dependent, etc.), nor are you getting an amazing steal of a deal bargain. Thus ... should be close to a fair shake (condition dependent) ... as a path to exploration into the M journey.

Imo ... whether someone sticks with the M journey for a lifetime, or gives it a go and finds it "not for them" ... I think it can be a viable "rite of passage" to experience an M at least once in your life, for some folks.

Is this the time for you ... it's not a bad trade.
