I have a two battery charger for my XT5. So I could charge all three of my batteries at the same time — two in the charger and one in the camera.

The number of times I’ve had to to do that: 0

Obviously, if you are shooting enough frames in a day you may well have to charge multiple batteries at night and you’ll want an external charger. (A multi-battery charger can also be convenient if your batteries have sat for a while and you want to top them up before heading out.)

It is a pretty rare day when I do more than 400 frames with my XT5, (I can imagine situations where others might do that.) I no longer bring the external charger when I travel. I do bring one extra battery, but I can’t remember the last time I needed to use it.
