I have always had a deep fascination with the M ecosystem, mostly for the very small lenses that seem to resolve those 60+ mp sensors just fine, and that also share compatibility some some of the most epic film cameras made.
I always end up coming to my senses, realizing that it's always going to be an either/or scenario for me...either I bring just an M and a lens or two (likely just one lens mostly), or I bring a modern small MILC with a more useful lens and come home with less effort exerted and ultimately more keepers thanks to AF-assisted hit rates.
I feel like I would ultimately resent the M system after an unproductive outing, wondering if I had simply taken the wrong tool. I have never been able to overcome these intuitions and actually try the system, as the price is prohibitive enough to warrant selling off part of day to day system to pull it off. I also have some core issues with the business practices with Leica and would never line their pockets with a new purchase, opting for a used copy instead.
Maybe someday!
Best thing I ever did, eight years ago was to try my first Leica Rangefinder, the M10. As a mirrorless photographer, my first 48 hours "trying" to learn how to use the rangefinder was not...fun. But once it clicked it CLICKED--cat scratch fever ever since.
