Ultra-wide (pick 1)
I don't think a zoom lens is that useful for the ultra-wide range for travelling. An ultra-wide zoom only adds weights unnecessarily.
- Sony FE 20mm f/1.8 G: Fantastic lens, I love it. But don't really use it a lot. I've been debating if I should just use it for 90% of the shots with crop mode, which covers 20mm to 30mm. My favorite focal length is 28mm so it works for me. But I was a bit concerned about the distortion on general subjects.
- Sony FE 16mm f/1.8 G: I have not used this lens myself, but it is much more versatile than the 20G.

I completely disagree. Wide primes are such a PITA because I switch to the wide prime for a handful of shots, then immediately have to switch back. For this reason I sold my EF mount 15mm and 17mm primes and never replaced them.

Think about it this way: when you use your phone camera, what percentage of your shots are wider than 1×? Now look at the next subject you photographed immediately afterward. Chances are, it was at 1× (24mm equivalent) or longer.

If your habits are similar to mine, then get a wide zoom.

The prime is only needed if you need to shoot a lot of wide angle + low light subjects.
