Re: Anyone walk about with the Voigt pancakes on their X bodies?
Followup to using the Voigt pancakes on my X-E5 and how it is to use.
After using my Voigtlander 18mm f2.8 Color Skopar and 27mm f2 Ultron on the new X-E5, I have decided not to use them on this body any longer. They just are not as easy to MF compared to using them on my X-T5.
~ The LCD and EVF on the X-E5 are smaller and not of the same quality as on my X-T5. Hasn’t been a problem for AF lenses, but trying to manual focus is much harder to do. Yes I kicked up the brightness in both but still, especially with the EVF, is not fun…. At all.
For this reason I have decided to use my 4 Fujicrons (16-23-35-50) as the X-E5 main kit. They are the perfect size for this smaller body. The Voigts are wonderful and will be used on the X-T5 where the MF is not an issue at all.
Other X-E5 comments:
~ The Exposure Compensation dial on the X-T5 is just slightly recessed from the edge of the camera. It never seems to be changed by putting or pulling from the camera bag slot, so I rarely use it and a dial lock is not needed. The same dial on the X-E5 hangs over the vertical top plate but is still flush with the camera vertical back side as it is in a recessed slot. It seems to change alot when I put/pull from its slot, (the same bag/slot the X-T5 is in). It definitely need a dial lock, as its resistance to movement is less.
~ Lack of ISO Dial. Solved this by using the front command dial for ISO. But I would prefer to have a ISO top control, like on the X-T5, in the space the where the film recipes view window is.
~ Battery life….ugh. After the 1st week of use, had to buy a 3rd battery, as it seems to just eat them up. Have a 2nd battery for my X-T5, but in 9 months of shooting with it never had to change it during a days shoot. Really wish the X-E5 had the larger battery.
~ Front Control Lever w/FN button. Brilliant design, use this for face detect On/Off and tele crop with my primes.
Despite these differences between the 2 camera bodies I am glad I got the X-E5. It’s more compact size is welcome and with the 4 Fujicrons it is a great little kit.
