Re: Cosina Voigtländer Septon 40/2 for Sony E and Nikon Z announced for Marc...
Hmmm. IDK. I like the idea of this lens. Small, compact, likely as well-made as other CVs. For the Zf, smaller is better. It's a "if you only have one lens" kinda lens.
But, I shoot CV for practical reasons, primarily the 28 and 50
28/1.5 - MF great for zone focus / gives me more control and speed over AF 28s.
50/2 - SMALL size for the performance compared to the AF alternatives.
50/1 - great portrait lens - small for being super fast.
I still have the NIKON 28/2.8Z, but I don't use it at all. It's light. It's redundant. I should sell it.
Zone focus isn't as great at 40mm - it becomes more "pre-focus", so I tend to want AF in this focal length, particularly since everything else I use is MF. The Nikon 40/2 is a tad lighter and a bit larger - call it a draw. I like the look of the images from the Nikon 40, too. It slots in between the 28 and 50 well because it is light and adds AF.
This looks like a good lens, though. If the 40/2Z AF didn't fit so well, I might try it. (But, would you pick this over the similar sized 40/1.2 that is a hit?)
I kinda wish it were a 21 or 24, though...It's a bit odd how CV in an age of super sensitive sensors and IS obsesses over slight lens speed and IQ differences in a single focal length rather than broadening focal length options.
