On my final day of photographing autumn aspens before the season ended, I headed back up into the Utah mountains and was delighted to see foggy clouds had descended on the high elevations. The fog was on the move constantly, creating compositional opportunities that were fleeting. I used a tripod when possible but much of the shooting had to be reactionary and quick so I relied on the in-camera stabilization to hand hold. The last image in the series was taken as the foreground fog had lifted and revealed an intensely colorful section of trees.
Fog in an autumn woodlands is my favorite weather condition of all time, having previously experienced this in the Smoky Mountains, and I’m grateful to have been wandering in gorgeous aspen groves during this fall.
