It seems to me the 45/1.2 is more a response to Nikon's 'cheap' and imperfect 35/1.4 character lens.
I kinda get a kick out of shooting with a second tier system like Canon for birding. Love it... It's cheap, and good enough for me. If it weren't so cheap I would probably switch..
