The Z6III came out relatively late, so late that many who had been waiting for an Expeed7 successor switched to the Zf, if they haven't already snapped up the Z8.
For buyers of a Zf or Z8, the issue of a new body was already settled before the launch of the Z6III, and only a minority buy the latest model every time it comes out.
The majority are set for a few years with a new body, so the Z6III simply came too late for many potential buyers.
Another factor, at least in the EU, was its launch price of €2,999, which was much too close to the Z8, which was already widely available for €3,599 at the time of the Z6III launch, meaning it was only €600 more than the Z6III.
As a result, it initially sat like lead on the shelves, and Nikon was forced to not only lower the EU MRSP after a short time, but also to offer additional discounts to generate demand.
As already mentioned, four months after its launch here in the EU, the Z6III was already available at discounts of over 20% compared to the launch price.
Part of the demand was therefore already saturated with the Zf or Z8 when the Z6III was released.
In addition, Nikon set the MRSP far too high here in the EU, much too close to a Z8 and much too far away from a Zf, ultimately leaving it in no man's land at the time of launch.
I think the Z6III should sell well now because, at a price range of €2049–2199, it is currently one of the best deals in the Nikon Z universe.
However, this was definitely not the case at launch, and the Z6III was significantly overpriced in the first few months, in any case, here in the EU with the requested 3k.
