Eastern Sierra during and after the big snowstorm


I recently returned from the Eastern Sierra . I was planning on shooting fall color, but I arrived after the peak and just as an unusual heavy October snow storm dumped a lot of snow at high altitudes and closed Tioga Pass. I spent a rainy day in Bishop and the next day managed to be in the Alabama Hills when the storm lifted. There was magnificent new snow on the peaks and beautiful fog and clouds. After that we moved to Lee Vining to photograph the side canyons. The star of the show was not autumn color, but the new snow on the mountain tops and the crisp clear air and beautiful sky and clouds. It was so beautiful and at the time I knew that no photograph could capture how glorious it was. I was right, but I did take some good photos. Here are a few:
