i guess i'm with @johnvavr on this...
to me, it's a camera, not a religion. i bought Leica mainly for what the camera offers and not to be part of some kind of community. and it should be the foundation and Leica seems to be forgetting that.
honestly, I don't think Leica cares that much about its customers where it matters...having these events and gatherings and cult meetings and having posh stores are not it. because these things also benefit them because it's a brand promotion opportunity...with emphasis on promoting thejr brand... to me it's really a superficial way to show "it cares."
if they really care that much..repairs shouldn't take weeks or months.
the EV-1 to me is a demonstration that they truly lost the plot. some would argue Leica created it because "they listened to their customers" yearning for an M that doesn't require an RF.
did they, though?
if they listened, they would have taken a bit more risk and created a better product that would really say that they listened and not just protect their bottom line..a product worthy of the M moniker. if they truly listened. that EVF and focusing aid would not have been so laym. and you can't say they have to be conservative that's why the EV-1 couldn't take risk and all that...because last i checked they're very profitable. they could have, they just didn't want to.
I'll just go back to the "mid-cycle" aspect. I think the true test will be to see what they do in the next iteration.
Of course, they could decide to take it down the path of the CL > CL2 ... oh, wait.
Time will tell.
The business of business.
""mid-cycle" aspect" I like this perspective. I think I'll make it my own 😎.
This morning I read similar comment by "LUF" member elmars : " I think it's a kind of market research for Leica. The investment in the EV1 was probably limited. If the market accepts it, Leica will invest more and there will be innovations. At least, that's what I hope."
I wouldn't hold my breath for lots of innovation in focus aids with the next generation of the Leica M EV. Focus aids require really good software development and that is not Leica's strength. I think it is indeed one of its primary areas of weakness. Maybe they will devote resources to doing something innovative, but personally I just don't expect that to happen.
Personally, I’m not exactly sure where I stand on some of the new and popular MF electronic focus aids. Many times I find myself turning all of that off as it can for me actually get in the way /distract in some scenes/scenarios.
I certainly see the need, and maybe one day I’ll need the assistance too.
