For my fall trip this year I’ve been concentrating on Utah. I’ve been coming here to photograph for 25 years and was eager to return, but my excitement was tempered by the severe drought most of the state is in, as forecasts suggested colors could be dull and short-lived this year. To my happy surprise much of the foliage decided to give its best and put on quite a show despite the lack of moisture, and the pockets of orange and red aspens added to the usual yellow have been a feast for my eyes. I’m still in Utah shooting now but here are my favorite dozen compositions so far. I hope the passion I feel for the beauty here comes through.
Technical notes:
Cameras used were Sony A7RV’s, primarily using the full range of the Tamron 50-400mm, secondarily the Sony 24-105mm f/4, and on occasion the Sony 16-35mm f/4 PZ. Development was done in Lightroom and I did not use the saturation slider. Rather, I chose profiles that complimented the wonderful colors I was seeing, which often is the Adobe Landscape profile, sometimes the camera matching Portrait for it’s particular color rendering, and on scenes that were inherently flat and low contrast I sometimes chose a vivid profile from either Adobe, camera matching, or Color Fidelity.
