Re: Why I sold all my mirrorless gear and went back to DSLR's
jwolfe,
If you think you've found a better solution that meets your shooting needs and expectations, I am happy for you. If you are seeking affirmation, I'm not sure I'd be one to check that box.
While cameras like the D5, D6, D850, and D500 all represent the pinnacle of Nikon's DSLR achievements, I personally would never return to that technology. The speed and accuracy of the mirrorless autofocus systems and ability to see the histogram in real time has allowed me to spend more of my cognitive energy on composition and light. Nature photography is my "bread and butter," "passion," and income source. Mirrorless cameras have enabled me to produce more "keepers" per outing than was ever possible with DSLRs. I definitely don't miss focus calibration issues when shooting telephotos wide open, and the level of AF accuracy with a 48MP Z9 & Z8 allows me to shoot with confidence.
With that said, I due have a Leica M240 w/ 35mm f2 lens. When I want to experience a bit of nostalgia or slow down, I pull that camera out... but if I want to produce the best work possible, Nikon mirrorless ticks the boxes for me.
Good shooting and enjoy,
bruce
