The jet's call sign reminds me of a very good book to read on the conflicts the combat soldier endured in Vietnam.
"The Sandman" offers readers a view of the soldiers' paradox: Soldiers must-by military doctrine-do the impossible. Simultaneously, the soldier must deny the existence of emotion-that which spurs one to do the impossible." Then you have President Reagan's words: "He(Pres Reagan) also pledged that the U.S. would not again send soldiers to fight "in a war our government is afraid to let them win". There was a more telling pledge but I can't find it.
